Flu vaccinations have been proven to be safe and effective. But it's not the only preventative measure. There are not enough flu vaccines for everyone in the country. For those unable to receive the vaccine, health officials have made some suggestions.
Liang Xiaofeng, Official of China Disease Prevention & Control Center, said, "Measures to prevent common respiratory, infectious diseases are all effective. For example, keeping indoor air fresh, avoiding crowded public places, washing hands frequently, wearing masks, changing clothes, and having adequate nutrition. All these measures should be part of everybody's daily lives."
The suggestions also apply to those who have already been vaccinated, since it takes one to two weeks to take effect after being administered.
People are also coming up with their own ways to protect themselves against the virus.
A drugstore emplyee said, "Some preventive drugs are selling well. And the sales of mask have increased more than thirty percent. "
Many public sectors are also doing their best to combat the flu.
In Beijing, subway workers have been disinfecting facilities five times a day.
And ventilation systems at newly built subway lines are working around the clock.
Each train is disinfected at least once a day, and those carrying passengers to and from the airport are disinfected at least twice everyday.
