America's fast food chain, McDonald's is celebrating its 30th anniversary in France with the opening of its 1-thousand-1-hundred-and-42nd outlet just yards from the entrance to the world's most visited museum, The Louvre in Paris. Public opinion is split over the news.
The new McDonald's restaurant is scheduled to open next month in the underground approach to the Louvre known as the Carrousel du Louvre. The stonewalled gallery was opened in 1993, five years after the famous Louvre pyramids.
The museum said that it had agreed to a quality McCafe and a McDonald's in place by the end of the year, which the museum said is in line with its image.
Despite the museum's approval, tourists opinions are divided over the new outlet. The dispute dwells mainly on the wether the opening of the new outlet will taint the atmosphere of the Mecca of high art. A french man said that he wouldn't object to the move, but said that the quality both in culinary and aesthetic terms should be ensured. While these two US tourists find it unnecessary since there's already a McDonald's across the street.
France, with more than 1,100 outlets, is the fast-food empire's second biggest market after the United States.
