Chinese, DPRK leaders meet

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have met in Pyongyang.
During their meeting on Monday, the two sides reached consensus on China-DPRK relations and the promotion of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.
Wen Jiabao says China is willing to work with the DPRK to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen pragmatic cooperation, strengthen coordination on major issues, and push forward good neighbor and friendly cooperative relations.
Kim Jong Il says Wen's official goodwill visit demonstrates the importance that China attaches to ties with the DPRK. He says his country is ready to work with China to strengthen ties.
Kim also says the DPRK's commitment to the denuclearization of the peninsula remains unchanged. This includes willingness to attend multilateral talks, including the six-party talks.
Wen Jiabao says China is willing to make concerted efforts with the DPRK and other parties concerned to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and to maintaining peace, stability and development in Northeast Asian.
The same day, the two leaders also attended a celebration marking 60 years of diplomatic relations and the closing ceremony of the China-DPRK Friendship Year.
At the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, Wen jiabao said China and the DPRK have understood, supported and helped each other during the past 60 years.
He said the ruling parties and peoples of China and the DPRK have steadily promoted the development of the bilateral ties, contributing to regional peace and stability.
The leaders watched the gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang", presented by DPRK artists.
