Germany's favorite polar bear Knut, welcomed his new playmate at the Berlin Zoo. The two bears attracted many visitors.
The new playmate, Giovanna, was born in Italy only a few days before Knut. She arrived at the zoo two weeks ago.
The Berlin Zoo agreed to look after Giovanna and two other polar bears while their enclosure at the Munich Zoo was renovated.
Fans hoping for a romantic relationship between the two will have to wait. The zoo keeper says both bears are not yet sexually mature.
Knut was born in 2006 and was hand-fed after his mother rejected him. Zoo officials say the polar bear quickly rose to global fame as a fluffy, cuddly cub, and attendance at the zoo has roughly doubled since their arrival.
