Flower shows are blooming in several parks of Beijing, to welcome the nation's 60th birthday.

A dozen parks will present botanical displays. Residents can view some rare species. A variety of flowers and combinations create colorful patterns and forms. Red and yellow, considered the colors for happiness and joy, dominate. The chrysanthemum is the Beijing's official flower. Many types are being used to showcase the character of the city.

Botanist, from Beijing Botanical Garden, said, "We use over 100 types of chrysanthemum. Some of them are unusual. Some are imported from overseas, and some are selected from those used in the Olympics."
