Days of torrential rains through America's southeast have soaked the region. At least eight people died since the onslaught of bad weather began late Sunday.
Neighborhoods, schools and even rides at the famous Six Flags amusement park were awash under several feet of water. Officials are warning residents to wait for floodwater to recede before returning to their damaged homes.
Washed-out roads and flooded freeways around Atlanta caused commuter headaches. Hundreds of residents sought refuge in shelters.
About 12,000 households were without electricity. Scattered outages were also reported in neighboring North Carolina.
