A press conference was held in Beijing on Monday giving the local press a chance to meet the leading creators of the movie "My Fair Gentleman". The big-screen comedy features the performance of Sun Honglei and Kelly Lin. The movie's supervisors John Woo and Zhang Jiazhen also attending the presser.
"My Fair Gentleman" follows the romantic pursuit of a newly rich businessman obsessed with a female entertainer. Through the hilarious quest for a woman he thinks is the love of his life, the vulgar rich man transforms himself, as well as the object of his affection. In the end, he becomes a perfect gentleman. To a certain extent, John Woo identifies with the title role of the production.
Supervisor John Woo said, "Before I met my wife, I was teaching dance at a middle school. I liked ballroom dances like the Waltz and others. Back then I appeared in a lot of stage shows. Lots of young girls had a thing for me. But after I started going out with my wife, I gave up all other pursuits."
From the writing of the screenplay to the actual shooting, the production of "My Fair Gentleman" took a total of four years. Li Juyuan, screenwriter and director of the show, said he would like the movie to be fashionable and delicate. John Woo, who had recently drawn wide attention for the blockbuster "Battle of Red Cliff", said that high-minded comedies would infuse the audience with hope and happiness. Both of them believe that light-hearted urban comedies will become more and more popular over time.
The movie opens on September the 28th across China. It is a pity that John Woo only plays a cameo role in the production.
