China is honoring its most important sports heroes during the nation's 60th anniversary celebration. An awards-given ceremony remembering Chinas most important sportsmen and women since 1949 was held in Beijing Sunday night. Dating back from August of this year, Chinese athletes collected 2,310 world championships and broken 1,195 world records.
60 sports stars from the past 60 years took the spotlight. Athletes were honored according to the decades in which they competed. Swimmer Mu Xiangxiong broke the world record in the 1950s, table tennis big name Li Furong represented the '60s, and mountaineer Pan Duo the '70s.
Volleyball star Lang Ping celebrated the 1980s, and gymnast Fu Mingxia the '90s. Liu Xiang was also noted as the top sports hero of the 21st century so far. Just when the injured Olympic hurdler will come back to the field was a hot topic.
Liu Xiang, champion of Athens Olympic 110 Hurdles, said, "Now I train every day, I am preparing for the matches. Ups and downs during injuries are very common for athletes. I want to be in good form when I come back to the field. I want to say thanks to the people who care about me."
