Giant panda Taishan has turned four at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. His fans came out for the birthday celebrations.
Taishan's birthday present was a three layer cake made with his favorite foods, bamboo, shredded beets and beet juice. Taishan's fans were delighted to see him grabbing the apple that topped the cake. But the apple fell to the ground. Taishan is the first giant panda born at the National Zoo to survive more than a few weeks. He now weighs more than 90 kilograms. Both of his parents are on loan from China. Taishan will be moving to China later this year as part of an agreement.
