China's state auditors say operating profits from last year's Beijing Olympics hit more than a billion yuan.
The National Audit Office says total revenue for the games was 20 and a half billion, with investment for the event standing at nearly 19.4 billion yuan. That means income is more than double the most recent estimate of 410 million. Most of it came from marketing revenues, broadcasting rights, tickets and merchandise sales.
The office also says the country broke even on the Paralympics. Income and expenditure both reached 863 million yuan.
