An Air France passenger plane carrying more than 200 people has gone missing just after leaving Brazil.

The Airbus 330-200 was bound for Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. The control center lost contact with the plane shortly after its takeoff from Rio de Janeiro.

Brazil has confirmed that a 5-kilometer path of wreckage found in the Atlantic Ocean belongs to Air France Flight 447. Brazilian defense minister said the strip of wreckage included metallic and nonmetallic pieces.
