Long Qing Canyon
Nestled in Yanqing county in the northwest of Beijing, Long Qing Canyon features crystal clean water and beautiful mountain views. People say the spot combines the grandeur and scenery typical of northern China, with the delicate touch of views in southern China. For their common characteristics, Long Qing Canyon is dubbed as the little version of the "Three Gorges" in southern China.
In summer, the area of Long Qing Canyon is cooler than other parts of Beijing, making it an ideal escape from the heat. In winter, the ice lasts longer, which explains why the annual ice lantern festival is held there. Launched in 1987, the ice lantern festival has become the largest outdoor ice lantern exhibition at such a low latitude.
