Chinese President Hu Jintao is in Senegal for his first state visit after the resumption of diplomatic ties in 2005.

President Hu was received by his Senegalese counterpart Abdoulaye Wade at a welcoming ceremony at the airport. Hu said friendly cooperation between China and Senegal have brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. The visit aims to deepen mutual understanding and trust, promote cooperation in various fields and raise bilateral relations to a new level.

In addition to his meeting with the Senegalese president, Hu Jintao is also scheduled to meet with the President of the National Assembly, Macky Sall and visit China-aided programs.
