Treasury Secretary Paulson defended his response to the financial crisis and said the government had all the necessary tools to prevent a collapse.
Paulson struck back at criticism of his controversial decision in September to allow investment bank Lehman Brothers to file for bankruptcy, saying this could not be avoided because there was no federal authority to intervene at the time.
