Mexico City is providing the backdrop for a parade of whimsical giant folk art sculptures known as "alebrijes", a mainstay of Mexican folk art.

Alebrijes are brightly-colored Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical animal-like creatures, coming in diverse shapes and colors. About 80 of these monumental sculptures paraded through the main avenues of Mexico City on Saturday.
