One of the most pressing tasks in China's post-quake construction work is to ensure people in quake-hit areas get safely through the winter. People around the country have been donating money and clothes to help quake victims stay warm during the coming months.
In Shanghai and the provinces of Jiangxi and Shandong in eastern China, retired people are getting together in their communities to knit sweaters, hats, scarves and gloves. 69-year old Lin Jinbao plans to send everything he knits to people in the quake-stricken areas.
69-year-old Lin Jinbao said, "It would be very surprising to know the sweater was knitted by an old man! I sewed a red thread to mark it."
In Shaanxi Province in northwestern China, 74-year old Nan Cairong spent 3 months making 103 cotton coats. She's sent them to the Wenchuan Women's Union in Sichuan.
