Overseas Chinese in US cheer for Shenzhou 7
Chinese consulate staff and Chinese expats gathered in Houston, Texas, to celebrate the 59th anniversary of the founding the People's Republic of China. They have also been keeping an eye on Shenzhou seven spacecraft and have celebrated its success.
They may be living on the other side of the globe, but they are equally proud of the success of the Shenzhou 7.
The Chinese general consulate in the southern US city of Houston celebrated the successful launch of the spacecraft.
Consul General, Madam Qiao Hong, says China's space mission couldn't have been possible without three decades of reform and opening up. She also spoke highly of Sino-US relations over the past 30 years.
Locals who joined the celebrations were also impressed with China's space feat.
Alex Gabriles, Houston Resident said "Oh I was so excited. I stayed to watch the television. It was really an amazement.I knew they could do it and I know they'll probably (incomprehensible).....expressions like we all have. so congratulations to all of you."
The Chinese expats say nobody understands the national pride for the success of the Shenzhou 7 better than they do.
They feel strongly that they are beneficiaries of China's growing influence around the world.
