Major Chinese dairy manufacturers and retailers have made a joint pledge after the deadly milk powder scandal, promising to ensure the safety of dairy products.

So far some 20,000 infants have reportedly been sickened or developed kidney stones from drinking milk powder containing melamine.

It will be a long, hard battle to win back consumer confidence after the scandal that rocked the nation.
