Du Toit beat the world record in the S9 women's 100-meters freestyle on Monday night to win her second gold of the Games, after taking the 100 meters butterfly gold on day one.

The 24-year-old amputee also competed in the 10-kilometer open-water swim at last month's Olympics. She finished 16th out of 24 swimmers.

Du Toit has been competing internationally since the age of 14. In 2001 her left leg was amputated above the knee after a car accident. Just three months later, she was back in the pool.

In 2003, competing against able-bodied swimmers, Du Toit won gold in the 800 meters freestyle at the All-Africa Games.

This May, Du Toit finished fourth in the 10 kilometer open water race at the World Championships, and qualified for the Beijing Olympics.
