A photographer takes pictures at an exhibition of Marilyn Monroe property at an auction house in a file photo. An amateur film of Marilyn Monroe on the set of 'Some Like It Hot' has surfaced in Australia almost 50 years after it was shot and is being put up for auction.
A second roll of amateur film featuring legendary screen goddess Marilyn Monroe has turned up. Earlier this year, a 47-minute amateur film of Monroe and Clark Gable sold for 60-thousand dollars. That film was shot by an actor who had a small part in the film, "The Misfits." The latest amateur film is older still. It was shot on a film set in 1959 and lately has come to light in Australia.
Auctioneer Charles Leski says the two-and-a-half minute 8mm film shows Monroe and co-star Tony Curtis on the set before shooting a beach scene. Director Billy Wilder is also seen. The film was shot by a U.S. naval officer. He was invited to the film set, after Monroe visited his base in San Diego. The 8 mm film, in its original Kodak box, was passed on to the man's daughter who lives in Melbourne, Australia. When he died she decided to put it up for sale, thinking it may be of significance to the film world. Auctioneers expect the rare clips to fetch thousands of dollars.
