China's first special economic zone Shenzhen is enjoying a cultural boom. The Hua Museum, known as honeycomb opened on Tuesday, creating a triangle of art showcases along with He Xiangning Art Museum and OCT Contemporary Art Terminal. Three simultaneous exhibitions are underway to highlight the city's new shape in Art.
90 pieces by 54 artists are hung in the 3-thousand square meter hall. The concept behind the works is "grafting" - as in grafting one twig to another. But the exhibition is not about plants. It's about changing perspectives on familiar things, through painting, photography, sculpture, and so on. Some of the altered perspectives can be quite startling. Curator Zhao Xiaoxuan says it's a way of creating the connection that allows people to learn to appreciate contemporary art.
Wang Guanyi has his personal showing at the nearby He Xiangning Art Museum. He says his collection reflects his view of philosophy, shared with viewers in the simplest terms he can express.
