Dutch cycling gold medallist Marianne Vos has celebrated with her compatriots in Beijing after storming to victory in the points race. Vos lapped the field on the way to collecting 30 points, finishing ahead of Cuba's Yoanka Gonzalez and Spain's Leire Olaberria.
Just hours after winning her first Olympic title, Marianne Vos still had the energy to return to Holland House in Beijing and celebrate her victory with hundreds of Dutch fans. The 21-year-old wore the gold medal she secured with a commanding win in the points race at the Laoshan Velodrome.
In the lead up to the Games, Vos had concentrated her energies on the women's road race, in which she'd finished sixth. Competing in the points race was a bonus.
Marianne Vos, points race gold medalist says "Well of course, it's not really for the points race, I was training for road race. But it doesn't matter, it's a gold and every gold counts. I'm glad this tournament ends in gold and yes it's great."
