One hundred and fifty students from China's quake-hit Sichuan province have arrived in New York.

The Chinese embassy in New York held a reception for the students on Saturday, one day after they arrived.

A student from Sichuan province says "I'm very happy. I'm lucky and moved."

All the students selected are top scholars. And the State University of New York has set up scholarships for students who show outstanding leadership and cross-cultural communication abilities.

Spokesman of the State University of New York says "The program is important, but it's just the first step. There will be more cooperation in the future."

The 150 students will study at 22 campuses around New York State. The study program is aimed at developing their leadership skills.
