Stealing the limelight however were the illuminations of the terra cotta warriors. They are on display at the Cultural Square in the Place Mall. The legion consists of 102 warriors, decorated with colorful lighting. Together they bring a sense of spectacle to Beijing's night sky.

A Beijing resident said, "I think it's something novel combining modern elements and traditional Chinese art."

Organizers say hundreds of cultural events are scheduled at 26 Beijing squares. The entertainment will continue throughout the Olympic Games.
