Between 2003 and 2008, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and State Administration of Cultural Heritage have chosen four groups of "Historical and Cultural Towns and Villages". These 251 towns and villages are distributed in 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, reflecting the historical evolutionary progress of different regions, different nationalities and different economic and social development stages. They are famous for their outstanding architecture arts, rich and colorful folk customs and splendid landscape, which have high research and appreciate values. Here, we choose 34 villages from the list and add another 21 famous villages.
