Located in Huailai County of Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, Jimingyi Village was a post station of Ming and Qing dynasties. The name comes from "Jiming", the name of the mountain, and "Yi", meaning post station. Jimingyi used to be the biggest post station in China. It has six pawnshops, nine business, tea shops and temples, etc. Yongning Temple is the oldest with over 800 years of history. From its layout and construction, we can know that Jimingyi Village combines Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism together. Empress Dowager Cixi stayed in the most famous local courtyard Hejia Dayuan overnight while fleeing from the Forbidden City when the Eight-Power Allied Forces occupied Beijing in 1900. As of now, the brick carved with four Chinese characters "Hong Xi Jie Fu" has been preserved to commemorate Empress Dowager Cixi's stay.
