Located at Nan'an of Fujian, Zhangli Village is one of the 18 scenic spots of Quanzhou. The ancient house group of the Cai clan, one of the key national safekeeping cultural relics, was built mainly by Cai Qichang, a Chinese national who lived in the Philippines, and his son Cai Zizhen during the Qing dynasty. The clay, wooden and stone statues were sculpted carefully with techniques including hollow-out, relief and flat carving. The sculptures and decorations embody a mature sculptural art form in southern Fujian under the influences of Indian Buddhism, Islam, and Southeast Asian and western architecture.
