The President of Marina Industries Association (MIA) issued Golden Anchor certificate to the Qingdao International Sailing Centre on March 3, proving that it is well on its way to becoming a global top yacht marina. Qingdao received a 4.5 Golden Anchor, which is close to the prime rank of five golden anchors, the highest level for yacht clubs and marinas, according to the rating system. Xing Luzheng, general manager of Qingdao City Construction Investment Group, said that the reward will promote the further development of the sailing and yachting industry of Qingdao. Completed in 2006, the Centre bears 451 berths. It hosted the Olympic Sailing competitions for the 2008 Summer Olympics. This meant yet another huge honor after it had already been rewarded as a 4A (AAAA) attractions. After the five years of development following the 2008 Olympics, it has become a comprehensive tourist destination that combines events, tourism, vacationing, dining, leisure activities and entertainment.
