Boeing Group along with Qingdao Institute of BioEnergy and Bioprocess Technology will work together to develop a sustainable algal aviation biofuel to improve the environment and economy.
Boeing's R&D department and the institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed an agreement May 26 to expand cooperation and develop algal aviation biofuel.
The two parties will establish a joint research lab to engage in the development of algal planting, harvesting and processing technologies. The lab, based in Qingdao and under the joint management of Beoing's R&D center in China and the institute, will focus on the commercialization of the technologies.
Microalgae energy technology is a new biological energy source technology that converts solar energy and carbon dioxide into energy through photosynthesis by algae. It can not only increase the energy supply and ensure energy security but also reduce levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
