After more than six months of inspection and investigation, Zhongyuan in Qionghai City, Hainan, which is near the site of Boao Forum For Asia, has been selected as the location of the new Boao airport.
This airport has a planned investment of CNY787 million, and is scheduled to be opened by 2010. It is designed to meet the requirements of private planes and business jets for domestic and foreign dignitaries who come to Boao to participate in the Boao Forum For Asia. It is also to be used as a civil airport.
Boao airport will have a 4C level flight area with a 2,600 meter-long runway that can handle mid range aircraft, e.g. Boeing 737s, as well business jets.
The Boao Forum For Asia has held annual conferences seven times since 2001. The new Boao airport is expected to offer more convenience for the participants from home and abroad.
