The goal of a smoke-free Shanghai World Expo has been achieved, the World Health Organization (WHO) and China's Ministry of Health said Friday.
China fulfilled its tobacco-control promise at the six-month Shanghai Expo, the two organizations said after a joint inspection of the Expo site on Oct. 20 and 21.
The Shanghai Expo's tobacco control commitment included a "public place smoking control regulation" in Shanghai and the returning of funds donated by tobacco companies. It also included a smoking ban at the Expo site and a ban on outdoor tobacco advertising.
The last day of the Expo is Sunday, Oct. 31.
