Poland
Theme: Poland Is Smiling
Paper-cutting, one of Poland's most celebrated folk arts, inspired designers to create a pavilion out of paper-cut patterns. Sunlight filters through the patterns during the day; at night, the pavilion's lighting systems turn the building into a dazzling display of light and shadow. The pavilion also celebrates one of Poland's greatest cultural ambassadors, the famed classical composer Frederic Chopin; his music is featured in nearly all of the pavilion's public shows and activities.

Russia
Theme: New Russia: City and Citizen
The Russia Pavilion's 12 ivory towers represent the country's rapidly growing urban centers. The pavilion's design team created a fairytale atmosphere for the building; the story The Adventures of Dunno and His Friends, written by famed Russian children's author Nikolay Nosov, served as a specific inspiration for the pavilion. Russia's innovations in the areas of space exploration, pharmaceuticals and energy conservation are fully illuminated in the pavilion's numerous exhibits.
