Luxembourg's Grand Duke Duc Henri addresses the ceremony. |
Luxembourg celebrated its National Pavilion Day on October 10 with live music from the country's Largo Band.
The Luxembourg Pavilion showcased the European nation's friendship with China as well as its culture, history, economy and environment, said Luxembourg's Grand Duke Duc Henri during the ceremony at the Expo Center. Steel is one of the major industries of Luxembourg, therefore, the pavilion was made of steel, he added.
Luxembourg was one of the first countries that confirmed participation in the Expo.
Li Yizhong, China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology, said political trust between China and Luxembourg had been made deeper with their close cooperation in various areas since diplomatic ties were established. The Expo would further promote the healthy development of their relationship, Li said.
He hailed the Luxembourg Pavilion as an example of a sustainable structure for its use of green construction materials such as steel and wood.
The pavilion looks like a medieval fortress with a tower surrounded by a forest. It covers 3,000 sq m, with the recurring theme "Small Is Beautiful."
The design reflects Luxemburg's reputation as the "Green Heart of Europe" by demonstrating the concept of sustainable development.
