The photographic exhibition of Dr. Simon Zafiropoulou, consists of numerous photographs and derives from her trip along the "Silk Road" in China with her 9 year old daughter Katia. The "Silk Road" connects China and Mediterranean Sea for more than twenty centuries and has always been a way of trading silk, products and exchanging knowledge and ideas.
The first part of the photographer's journey along the famous "Silk Road" began in July of 2008 in Istanbul (Constantinople), crossing Asia Minor and countries such as Syria, Iraq, Iran, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kazakhstan reaching the borders of China.
The second part of her trip took place immediately after the Olympic Games of 2008 in Beijing and was focused on the historical cities of the Chinese hinterland such as Xi'an, Lanzhou, Jiayuguan, Dunhuang, the desert of Taklamakan, Xinjiang and the mountains of Pamir reaching, in this way, the border of China with Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Dr. Simoni Zafiropoulou graduated from Faculty of Law of the University of Athens and Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes Sorbonne, Paris. She has served as Cultural Attachée of Greece at the General Consulate in NY and Cultural Advisor at the Diplomatic Office of the Presidency of the Hellenic Republic.
The exhibition will last from 19 to 25 July, 2010.
Venue: Thematic Space of EU Pavilion, at the Shanghai Expo Park, Zone C.
