Besides being a successful food and beverage operator, Lin has other more official responsibilities. In Beijing he serves as deputy secretary-general of the Fuzhou Chamber of Commerce, and as secretary-general of Pingtan Chamber of Commerce. "I devote much energy to Hai Bar as a communicative platform, rather than only as a making-money business. There are hundreds of Pingtan town fellows in Beijing, and almost all know Hai Bar. Local dialect, local food … I endeavor to make Hai Bar an unofficial home in Beijing for Pingtan people," he says. "We have welcomed many visitors from Fujian who were in town on business or on vacation. Of course, Hai Bar is also a window for Pingtan. We promote Pingtan food and tourism through Hai Bar."

Lin has plans for the future. "I hope Hai Bar can grow into a distribution center for Fujian food in Beijing, so more people can enjoy original Fujian cuisine. At present, some 600,000 provincials from Fujian reside in Beijing, and I hope to leverage this potential asset to promote the Hai Bar brand. Many foreigners visit our bar, and I expect to build the brand up to an international level. Then Fujian provincials and tourists from China and beyond can find a bit of peace and pleasure at Hai Bar."
