Although it’s uncommon to see public displays of faith in atheist China, many people still visit the Fayuan temple in early April to celebrate the birthday of the founder of Buddhism, Sakyamuni. If you’re lucky you’ll see monks chanting prayers and washing the dust off Buddha’s statue.
