Ningxia is building its first low-carbon village at Lujiayao for residents displaced by a population relocation plan, or so-called "ecological migration project," which will move hundreds of thousands of people from inhospitable areas to arable land.
Local authorities are using the relocation plan as an opportunity to promote energy-saving technologies such as solar water heaters and photovoltaic panels.
The Lujiayao program covers an area of 227,000 square meters with a planned residential population of 11,440. Local standards for energy efficiency in housing construction are being strictly applied.
The first phase of the program will be finished by the end of October. The second phase will be done by the end of June next year.
