Tibet's Nyingchi Prefecture aims to earn 1.2 billion yuan (175.81 million U.S. dollars) from its tourism industry in 2010, according to Wang Jun, director of the Prefectural Tourism Bureau.
"Nyingchi will try to attract 1.4 million tourists from home and abroad this year," Wang said in an interview with Tibet Daily.
In recent years the prefecture has taken its tourism industry as a new economic growth point and a pillar industry, according to Wang.
"By building a well-known tourist site as its target, Nyingchi tries to develop itself into a famous winter tourist attraction and the second-largest distribution center for tourism in Tibet," Wang said.
In order to meet the target, Nyingchi will intensify its efforts in infrastructure construction, the improvement of tourism training and facilities and tourism promotion.
