The Development Master Plan for Taiwan Strait West Coast Tourism Zone (2010-2020) has been approved by the Cross-Strait Tourism Forum Review Committee.

According to the plan, from 2010 to 2020 the Taiwan Strait West Coast Tourism Zone will be built into one of China's most important natural and cultural tourism centers, and will be a world-class tourist destination complementing the East Coast. Altogether 23 cities in Fujian, Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi are involved in the master plan. The Taiwan Strait West Coast Tourism Zone will connect the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, and Taiwan as well as radiating into western and central China.

The plan was initiated in September 2007 during the Cross-Strait Tourism Forum, and it took two years to carry out fieldwork in the four provinces listed above, plus Taiwan Island, Kinmen, and Matsu.
