China's finest porcelain on show in Beijing

Six hundred of the finest pieces from China's "porcelain capital" of Jingdezhen are on display in the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing from November 30 to December 10, 2009.

The exhibition, "60 Glorious years of Ceramic Achievement in Jingdezhen," showcases porcelain produced in the ancient city over the past 60 years. The exhibits were carefully selected by experts from tens of thousands of works, to best exemplify both traditional Jingdezhen porcelain and the modern development of the ceramics industry.
While viewing the works, visitors can also watch craftsmen showcase their skills and listen to music performed on ceramic instruments.
Jingdezhen is in Jiangxi Province, in eastern China, not far from Yellow Mountain. The city has been producing porcelain since the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 AD). Jingdezhen porcelain is world famous, and in China it is said to be "white as jade, as bright as a mirror, as thin as paper, with a sound like a chime."
