After the chateau, we were treated to a look about the famous Penglai pavilion. The very essence of Yantai culture and the cradle of much of its history. From shrines and memorial halls to the eight immortals, to sculptures paying tribute to the founding figures of Taoism, Penglai pavilion truly encapsulates the historical side of Yantai's culture. As well as being (like most other parts we have witnessed of the city) extremely picturesque.

The day ended with dinner and the abundant hospitality of a group of Yantai officials, rightfully very proud of one of their main industries. As well as sampling several types of fine wine, we were treated to the best of Yantai’s seafood. It was a wonderful end to a wonderful day.

We can now look forward to the launching of the Yantai International Wine Festival tomorrow, but right now, I think our tipsy heads could all do with some sleep!
