Soccer team Cerro Porteno won a major Paraguayan derby with Olimpia 1-0 as part of the sixth round of that nation's Opening Tournament, thanks to a Marcelo Estigarribia goal in the 50th minute, according to news reaching in Buenos Aires on Sunday.
The match was at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Paraguayan capital Asuncion. It was the first for Argentina's Gustavo Costas, a former Cerro player now managing Olimpia, against countryman Javier Torrente, Cerro's regular manager who had once been an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa, the manager of Argentina's national team.
The two teams are now tied with 12 league points. Cerro has won 90 editions of the derby at home, compared with 88 home wins for Olimpia. The two teams have played 254 times altogether.
