European champions AC Milan were shown door out of the Italian
Cup after tying the last 16 match 1-1 by Catania on Wednesday.
Peruvian full back Juan Manuel Vargas drilled home from 30
meters out to put Catania ahead in the 11th minute before teenage
striker Alberto Paloschi leveled it in the 68th for Milan, who
rested several regulars.
With Wednesday's draw, Catania won 3-2 on aggregate with their
2-1 first-leg triumph at the San Siro.
Also on the day, holders AS Roma crushed Torino 4-0 to reach the
quarter-finals.
French midfielder Ludovic Giuly assisted twice for Roma's flying
victory, which started in the 59th minute with Mancini and two
minutes later for substitute Francesco Totti.
Totti then nailed a spot-kick to claim his 200th career goal and
Giuly completed the rout at the death.
Roma will pick quarterfinal encounter with Sampdoria, who
thrashed Serie A basement club Cagliari 4-0, while Catania face
Udinese, who beat Palermo 1-0 away.
In another play, Fiorentina knocked out Serie B Ascoli with a
2-0 victory (3-1 on aggregate).
