Three Chinese women and two Chinese men won their singles
matches to make the quarterfinals at Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open
Badminton Championship 2007 in Hanoi on Thursday.
In the women's field, Wang Yihan, Zhu Jingjing and Wang Lin beat
their rivals, all from Indonesia with respective scores of 2-0, 2-1
and 2-0, while their men compatriots Chen Yu and Qui Yanbo defeated
their opponents, both from Malaysia, with the same score of
2-0.
After the 56 matches on Thursday, athletes from China,
Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Japan,
Chinese Hong Kong, New Zealand and Thailand booked their tickets to
the quarterfinals.
For the men's singles, three from Malaysia, two from China, one
each from Indonesia, South Korea and Vietnam occupied the last
eight slots, while the women's singles see the advance of three
from China, two from Indonesia, one each from Malaysia, Japan and
Thailand.
Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea, all had two
pairs of players to make the last eight of the men's doubles, while
the women's doubles will see three duos from both Vietnam and
Indonesia, one each from Chinese Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei.
Half of the mixed doubles quarterfinal slots were snatched away
by Indonesia, with other two by Chinese Hong Kong, one each by New
Zealand and Vietnam.
The tournament, slated for lasting from November 6-11 in
Vietnam's Hanoi capital, attracts 198 athletes from 18 countries
and regions with a total cash prizes of US$50,000.
