A late goal from Wang Dong helped Changchun Yatai jump into the top
spot in the China Super League on Saturday when they edged
Shaanxi Baorong 1-0.
Wang struck a low shoot eight minutes from the final whistle,
adding three more points to a 13 point total amassed from their
first seven games.
In a hard-fought match, Changchun received a golden chance to
open the scoring five minutes into the game when Zhang Xiaofei's
close shot was blocked by Wang Yun on the goal line.
The hosts, Shaanxi, missed a sitter in the 23rd minute, with
Wang Yun only inches away from tapping in a cross from teammate
Huang Yong.
Each team was awarded two free kicks during the first half, with
both sides failing to score before the interval.
The deadlock was only broken late in the second half, when Wang
Dong took advantage of a mistake by Shaanxi's fullback Qu Nannan to
hand his side the three points.
Following the victory, Changchun Yatai moved to the top of the
league table with 16 points.
League powerhouses Beijing Guoan, Tianjin Kangshifu, Shanghai
Shenhua and Dalian Shide share second place with 13 points
apiece.
