Red-hot Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was named the
Eastern Conference player of the week on Monday by the National
Basketball Association.
Arenas, who was the player of the month for December, claimed
his third career weekly honor, while Minnesota Timber wolves
forward Kevin Garnett was honored in the Western Conference.
Arenas averaged 33.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 2.7
steals in helping the Wizards win two of three games.
In Wednesday's 108-105 victory over Milwaukee, he had 32
points,11 rebounds, eight assists, four steals and sank a
buzzer-beating 32-footer to win the game.
Garnett averaged 27.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.5
blocks as the Timber wolves swept four games.
He collected 27 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists and three
blocks in a 103-101 overtime win over San Antonio on Wednesday and
beat Philadelphia with a 15-footer at the overtime buzzer on
Friday.
