The Chinese Gymnastics Association (CGA) will send
newly-crowned world champion teams to compete in the Asian Games in
Doha next month.
The lineups announced by CGA on Tuesday are the same as in the
2006 world championships in Arhus last month except for teenager
Han Bin replacing Li Ya in the women's squad.
China collected eight of the 14 gold medals, including both
men's and women's team titles, in the 2006 championships.
Yang Wei, who earned two individual laurels as well as a team
title with his teammates in Arhus, will spearhead the men's squad
for the Doha Asiad. The women's lineup features Arhus worlds' best
female gymnast Cheng Fei.
In Arhus she didn't only make herself a double world champion on
vault and floor but also helped ther Chinese women take their
first-ever team title in a world event.
Li Ya, one of the original favorites, failed to enter the final
of her specialty, the uneven bars, and was absent from the women's
team final in the championships.
