India's Olympic mystery woman has apologized for gatecrashing the opening ceremony in London. Madhura Nagendra says an "error of judgment" caused her to walk at the head of her country's delegation.

Nagendra told local media she was a cast member in the ceremony who got swept up in the excitement.

She was dubbed the Woman in Red because of her jacket. She says she somehow ended up marching alongside Indian flag-bearer Sushil Kumar at the head of the delegation of 40 athletes. Nagendra admits she should not have been there. She says she's been stung by all the criticism and hopes she will eventually be forgiven.

Madhura Nagendra, said, "Of course I have realized the mistake. As a strong, young individual, I have come up in front of my whole country to apologize and tell them what has happened. I claim that I have not breached the security which was stated earlier in the media. I have not trespassed, I have not gate-crashed. I was supposed to be a part of the I am a part of the casting committee. And, accepting the fact that, yes I have hurt the sentiments of my people, that's why I have come across and I am telling my people that yes I understand it was a mistake and I apologize for the same."
