Barcelona won the Club World Cup with a comfortable 4-0 win over Brzsilian side Santos in Sunday's final at the Yokohama International Stadium, winning the competition for the second time in three years.
The highly anticipated final between European champions and South American kings has turned out to be a totally one-sided game. Barcelona jumped out to 2-0 within the first 30 minutes with goals from Messi and Xavi. Cesc Fabregas then added the third goal before halftime to kill the game.
The scoreline could been even higher in the first half if not for the exploits of Santos goalkeeper Rafael, who made several brilliant saves.
Santos showed more in the second half, taking advantage of an opponent who had slowed down from an impressive showing early on to enjoy a little more possession. But there was no sign that Barca's imposing three goal lead was in danger as they cruised towards the Club World Cup title.
There was to be a final flourish for Barcelona. Messi was played in by Dani Alves free on the edge of the box, and the Ballon D'Or winner skipped past Rafael to slide the ball home and extend the scoreline to 4-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Barca's triumph sees them add another trophy to go with the Champions League, Spanish league, and European and Spanish Super Cups that they already hold.
