The defending champion Francesca Schiavone of Italy romped into the second round of the women's singles by sweeping American Melanie Oudin 6-2, 6-0 at the French Open on Monday.
Schiavone, 30, was defeated by the 19-year-old Oudin in straight sets at last year's Fed Cup, but gave no chance to the world No. 88 on her first appearance of the title defending campaign.
The fifth seed admitted that she felt nervous than usual, "but with good feeling. So mix between nervous and really the chance to be good and to play tennis that I love. "
Last year, Schiavone became the second player since 1925 to win Roland Garros when not seeded in the Top 10.
Last year's runnerup Samantha Stosur defeated Iveta Benesova from Czech 6-2, 6-3 and the Australian will meet Romanian Simona Halep in the next round.
